[Product Review] BTipsy Muddler

Its the holiday season! Christmas is coming! Most importantly, its so cold outside! Post a comment if you’re like me and just about ready to wrap up the year by staying indoors and just hibernating. Maybe, wrap a blanket, hold a glass of wine, and just Netflix it through.

I’m a lover of outdoors, but only when its warm. I always joke about friends who enjoy the cold are polar bears. Because they get out when the temperatures are low. Well, if there’s a valid reference, I guess I’m a grizzly bear. I’m hyper when the weather is warm. I’m pretty sure my Chihuahua, Cupid agrees with me too.

My husband, the polar bear, is excited about winter though. He can’t wait to get out on the mountains and start snowboarding. Here’s what I told him: “If you leave me at home, I promise you that you can come back to warm meals.” He enjoys us doing activities together. I enjoy it too. We do almost everything together, and I love it! Because I enjoy trying out new things. But sliding down snowy mountains? Probably not my cup of tea. I prefer a pumpkin spice latte in my PJs in this weather. 😉 (PUNS!)

Along with the cold weather, comes trying out new recipes, LOTS of cooking/baking, and plenty of home parties, I hope. After all, Idaho’s cold weather drags from November to early May. That’s a whole lot of time to pass before we can get out near the water for some good fishing!

Things that I stock up during winter? Eggnog,  wine, vodkas, rum, bourbon. Hmmmm.. Yum. Well, I did mention baking above right? I’m using them for my fruit cakes… and… drinks… and.. cocktails. I love a good cocktail. Cosmo is like my go to drink when I’m out and ready to party. Wine is more of drinking to pair with food and winding down for the week.

I got really excited when I received the Cocktail Muddler Bar Tool By Btipsy

How to muddle

What do I think of it:

I was expecting a small stick that could mash my fruits & herbs to release their flavors in my cocktails but I was pleasantly surprised at how solidly built this thing was. There’s a little bit of weight to the muddler due to the materials used to make it. I’m quite sure you can use this to mash other softer foods as well, maybe to make a herb butter or even herbal infusions.

Using the Quarter to show the size of the base
Using the Quarter to show the size of the base

It is so easy to use, take it out and mash it. It has a nice wide enough base that allows you to move through whatever you have in your glass quickly.
The best part for me, after a day’s of entertaining, when I’m exhausted with a full day of prep, is that I can put this into the dishwasher with the rest of the dishes and I’m done. Especially in the cold weather now, I really hate having to be in contact with tap water.

This is truly good quality, the materials will not rust or peel, which is a big concern especially when preparing beverages.
It has a beautiful stainless steel finish that will match any bar accessories that you already own. I can’t wait to show this off during our Christmas parties.

Ambronite Drinkable Supermeal Review

The world is constantly evolving and everything is happening quicker and faster. These days, most things are like served to our doorstep as quickly as possible. Amazon Prime’s 2 day shipping, fast food drive through and deliveries. Even food for our dog, Cupid, is prepared quick and easy with the healthiest options available. We feed him The Honest Kitchen Revel Chicken and Whole Grain Dog Food and it comes dehydrated, all we needed to do was to add water and it is ready to eat. We rotate among the different flavors for him to have a mix of different flavors so that it doesn’t get boring for him.

Some days as I prepare the food for him, I actually wondered if there was a similar food available for humans that we just have to mix with water and we get the maximum amount of nutrients that is easy to eat. I want food that is not just fast and easy to make, but to have it all natural and in the most nutrition that I can get in a cup. I thought about the options available in the market, and many times while shopping on Amazon & Costco, I was very tempted to throw a tub of protein powder in my cart just so that I could use them as meal replacements after a tiring workout or when I’m hungry at night, which happens a lot.

Ambronite Supermeal Review

I was really quite excited to try Ambronite, because of all the information that I’ve read on it. Their slogan: The world’s first organic drinkable supermeal that fulfills daily nutrition recommendations in 2 minutes. I received this sample box for review purposes.

Whats in the sample box:

Ambronite Sample Box

There were 5 packets of Ambronite in the box, together with 2 water bottles, a welcome flyer and a nutrition guide book, that explains the ingredients in Ambronite and the story & team behind it.

I had just done my workout for the day and I really pushed hard in it. My entire body is sore and I’m feeling lazy to cook a meal. Initially I wanted to drink this in the morning, as a breakfast to start the day, but since its a supermeal that’s supposed to replace any meals with ease, I thought why not have it for dinner today?

Nutrition facts that is on the back of the packet:

2015-12-09 18.39.30

I prepared the meal with the instructions listed on the back of the packet. 550ml of filtered water in the bottle with 1 packet of Ambronite. Then shake it to the beat of Taylor Swift’s song.. Ok, I added that myself, but here’s the song for your enjoyment. Its kind of stuck in my head right now.

What it looks like inside the packet:

2015-12-09 18.42.40

You can literally smell the nuts and rice bran upon opening the packet. I love nut milks and this got me really excited. Not so sure about the rice bran part though.

After mixing:

Ambronite Review

How did that turn out?

I thought about this carefully, and tried my best to compare the nutrition worth and the taste. But this did not work out for me. I made it through to 3/4 of the bottle before calling it quits. I do think that Ambronite needs to refine their recipe to taste better. I could not get over the grainy taste. Each mouthful was powdery and I found it hard to drink. The taste was also rather bland. I guess the creators did this as a base mix for us to blend with our favorite fruits. My blender gave up on me awhile back and I was not able to try blending this with fruits or hemp milk. Then again, for it to be convenient, it should not need a blender to make it taste better.

Again, this Supermeal is filled to the brim with maximum nutrition that our body needs. I think that’s perfect, and with a little tweak in the powder, maybe adding Acai or more berry powder might help. Maybe it takes a couple of packets to get accustomed to the taste. Alternatively, my suggestion would be to make Ambronite into snacks. I can see myself using this to bake and making superfood bars or Supermeal cookies, which will definitely taste so much better. I still have 4 packets, and I may just experiment with it.

Would I buy this again? Unless the company changes the recipe, the Ambronite, sadly, is not for me. I love my food and value my health. I have a greens powder that I drink regularly, and while its not the best tasting drink in the world, I’m still able to down the whole cup. For something to replace the real food that I prepare I home, I need it to have a bit more flavor or a drinkable texture.

Thank you Ambronite for giving me this sample box for review. While I’m not a fan of it now, trust me, I love what you’re on to, and I’ll be following your progress. Hopefully the next products you come up with will suit me better.

The above is my opinion of the Ambronite, everyone has different tastes and opinions in terms of nutrition. They have a huge following of raving fans which I’ve seen from the videos on Youtube and online. Do check out their website HERE.

[Product Review] Lux Essentials Deluxe French Press Set

I’ve talked before about how I love to make cold brewed coffee and tea because they are so easy to make and less bitter too. You can check out how to make a cold brew coffee here  and it is super easy to make.

Today however, I made a hot brewed coffee in a french press. It was one of those days where….

10426330_10155453797765089_3786992167078232323_n

I had my usual instant coffee. I thought of doing a Nespresso Espresso, oh the pun. LOL!

Instead, I decided to try the hazelnut cream grounds that I got awhile back, and make it a super concentrated brew, so says the SavvyWife take takes an additional 4 shots from Starbucks for every cuppa she drinks. Addicted? That’s an understatement.

I brewed the coffee with this Lux Essentials French Press Coffee Maker . Yep, that’s the quantity for me alone. :)

French Press Review

Pros:
1) I love how this french press has some sort of like black plastic holder that goes around the entire class compartment so that you are able to hold it safely without burning your hands.
2) It comes with an extra replacement screen, I have not seen this in other french presses that I have bought.
3) They send you a coffee scoop as well, makes it easy for you to measure out the ground coffee for the amount that you need.
4) A full page instructions was included in the box, which I followed (and added 2 extra scoops of coffee for good measure.) and my coffee came out great.
5) The filter worked great, I didn’t find much residue in my cuppa, which is a great relief. Nobody likes drinking sandy coffee, if you know what I mean.
6) This is quite a big container so I love that you can make multiple servings in this and serve a few friends at a go.
You can easily brew cold brewed coffee in this french press, which is one of my favorite things to do.

Cons:
1) The plastic holder that is wrapped around the glass compartment is hollow on the inside. Every time I wash it, water and soap gets stuck inside, and I can’t seem to get it out, except to wait for it to dry out. This might lead to bacteria accumulation.
2) Big container. If you have limited cabinet space, do note that this french press is quite tall. About 9 inches.

Overall, I like the usage of this, and am very happy to use it to brew loose tea and ground coffee. I love that I can brew a bigger batch at a time and chill the beverages in the fridge and drink them whenever I want to.

*I received this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

[Product Review] Midori Spring Organic Ceremonial Matcha Powder – Gold Class

Maybe this came from my Asian background or maybe it started from our honeymoon to Korea. I learnt about matcha when we went to Korea for our honeymoon back in 2009. Back then I bought 4 bottles of matcha powder and used them mostly for baking because I was trying to make matcha cakes and spring rolls. Those were just simple off the shelves matcha that I got from the supermarkets in Korea, so that quality wouldn’t be something that can be compared to this.

On our trip to Japan earlier this year, I saw how the Japanese took pride in their food and what they ate. The Japanese have some of the best quality food in the world. If you are into healthy delicacies, Japan is THE place to be. It was like a dream for the lactose intolerant me. Every coffee shop has Coffee made with soy milk. WHAT?! That was insane because they never had that in Singapore. I was deprived for years in Singapore, and Japan spoiled me to bits. They had entire streets of soy products. I ate soy donuts and soy ice cream. It was a freaking DREAM for me. That is a whole blog post for another day, but needless to say, I miss Japan. There’s so much food I ate there that I really want to remake at home now. #HANGRY

Why Ceremonial grade Matcha powder?

Like many food that has different grading systems, apparently Matcha has its own system as well. I just learnt about this when I received this powder. Like I said before, I always try to research into everything I can before I introduce them on my blog because I want to make sure that it is what it claims to be, and it has to be made of quality. I hate wasting my money on things that fail on what they say they are, so trust me, I’ll never want you to spend a cent on things I don’t agree with.

Ceremonial grade is like the finest quality matcha that you can find and it definitely has higher purity compared to the common culinary grade matcha that you see everywhere. You can read more about this Midori Spring Ceremonial Gold Class Organic Matcha on their website HERE, complete with the tasting notes and the process that they go through to make it. I never knew there is so much to learn about matcha. So much like wine, I wonder if there are actually any matcha experts out there. 😉

Midori Spring Matcha Organic Ceremonial Green Tea Powder

Here’s a description from Amazon about this matcha powder:

Midori Spring’s Ceremonial Gold Matcha is rich, smooth and creamy with a hint of sweetness when brewed traditionally. This premium product is Ceremonial Grade and is Organic (USDA, JAS), Vegan and Kosher (OU) Certified. We only select the best raw material from our tea gardens mostly from Aichi and Kagoshima in Japan and maintain the highest standards in production. Our Matcha has a fresh, sweet, green-vegetable-like aroma. The colour is a vibrant emerald green. Only high quality Ceremonial Grade Matcha encompass these features. You can enjoy Midori Spring’s Ceremonial Gold Matcha the traditional way by brewing or you can create your own Matcha inspired recipe. Whichever style you choose to have your Matcha, you can experience the many health benefits it has to offer since Matcha is a Superfood. There are many immediate and long term health benefits when consuming Matcha, which include: increase in energy without the jitters, reduce stress and improve mental alertness, improve metabolism and help with weight loss, boost immune system and reduce inflammation and help the body cleanse of harmful elements. Give back to your health and embrace the power of Matcha.

IngredientsOrganic and Kosher Certified 100% Pure Matcha Green Tea Powder. Harvested from the finest tea gardens in Japan. Certified, tested, and tasted by 9th Degree Tea Masters to make sure each batch is perfection.

DirectionsTraditional Method- What you need: Matcha Bowl (Chawan), Matcha Whisk (Chasen), Bamboo Scoop (Chashaku), Small Sifter 1. Warm up matcha bowl and bamboo whisk. Place whisk in bowl and fill ¹/3 of bowl with hot water. Let it sit for 1 minute, discard water. Dry bowl with clean cloth or paper towel. 2. With the bamboo scoop place 2 scoops of Midori Spring Matcha through a small sifter into bowl to avoid clumping. 3. Pour 60mL/2oz of hot water (72-76°c, 162-169°f) into bowl and whisk briskly in a “W” motion until fine foam appears. The whisk should not scratch the bottom of the bowl. 4. Sip and Enjoy!

What do I think of this Midori Spring Organic Ceremonial Matcha Powder ?

This is seriously good quality stuff. I just made a soy matcha latte with the Midori Spring Matcha Gold Class… and boy did I fall in love with it. I made it using the Nespresso Aerocino and it came out just bubbly and creamy. They described this as rich, smooth and creamy and it was exactly how the latte came out.

Making Matcha latte

All I used was simply just 60 ml of unsweetened organic soy milk (i’m lactose intolerant, you can use whole milk or coconut milk for this as well.), together with the recommended 1/2 tsp of matcha powder. The recipe they provided on the tin is actually to mix this with water only, presumably to taste the quality of the powder. I didn’t even add sugar and it came out perfect. Almost the quality of what you would get from a restaurant.

I love products that only have 1 ingredient. For this, its 100% Pure Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder. It is vegan, GMO Free, Gluten free, and USDA certified organic. I know the pureness of it and I can change it up to the way I want it to taste. I really love this product and can’t wait to make more things out of it. I saw another reviewer shared a recipe to make cakes out of this.. Gotta try that!

Would I recommend this? YES!! I might even get more for myself because the matcha latte was creamy, delicious, perfection in a cup. The best part? It only took me about 30 seconds to do. I might just wanna add this to my regular beverages just to get the benefits of drinking matcha! :)

This is great for those of you who are also trying to quit coffee, many people have used this to swap and it worked out well for them… For me? This will be an addition on top of my coffee. Love my caffeine too much! 😉

[Product Review] DOB Wine Bottle Pourer & Aerator Accessory

I’m going to start off by saying I’m not a wine connoisseur so please do not expect me to delve deep into the details of how this works or what notes came out of my wine after using this aerator. This is not how it works for me. I may read more about it in the future, but at this moment, I’m one who enjoys a glass or 2 at night before going to bed or during the weekends. I usually drink white wine because they tend to have sweeter notes compared to red wine, which are more tannic.

I’ve read before that you need to let your wine breathe a little before you drink it to allow the flavors to settle and the taste would usually come out better. I always thought that allowing it to sit on the table for 5 minutes after removing the cork is enough. I’ve never really thought much about it, other than the fact that red wine might not be the wine for me, unless they were made sweet, or they were the more mature versions where the tastes were more flavorful. The problem is, the mature wines usually cost so much more and I’ve tried bottles that run into the hundreds of dollars. Although the were good, they weren’t so good on my pocket. :(

Lately there have been a lot of talk about wine aerators, which is a wine accessory that you can add on the mouth of the bottle to allow the wine to ‘breathe’ before enjoying. Normally the wines that need aerating are the red wines and some white wines. You can read more about wine aeration HERE.  Supposedly by exposing the wine to oxygen right before drinking allows it to open up its flavors and comfortable settle into its taste and character.

I’m so thankful to be given the opportunity to review this DOB Wine Bottle Pourer Wine Aerator Pourer , because it really was an eye opener and I absolutely LOVE it!

Before I go into details of my experience with this aerator, here’s a quick product description from the company itself:

Enjoy tasting wine instantly: With the DOB Wine Aerating Pourer there is no need to wait for 30 minutes for your wine to breathe like with a traditional decanter. Unique design:

Features a removable splash-guard to allow air in but does not let wine out and features an air intake system to aerate as you pour .

Convenience: Fits onto your bottle for a one-hand operation. Dripless pour spout.

Easy to clean, just run under hot water. Safety: Made of Food-grade ABS material + silicone.

All raw materials passed SGS test.

Specifications: Pruduct Itself: Length of 6.2in ; Weight of 40g; Packing Size: 7.5*2.6*2.2in; Weight of 140g.

We Are The Best Wine Aerators
The reason why we’re comfortable saying this is because a lot of time was spent on the design and performance of the product with the emphasis on correcting some of the flaws of other products you might see on the market

Why we need use wine aerator:
1. Wine needs to breathe before drinking because the original wine taste is bitter.
2. Wine aerator can help to get rid of the tannin, enhance wine flavor, get better aroma and pleasant finish.
3. People use decanter to aerate the wine traditionally but it is time-consuming,normally need to wait half an hour before drinking.
4. Wine aerator’s design speeds up this process with easy and convenience, you can enjoy your wine from the very first sip.

How it works:
1. Simply open the bottle, attach the aerating pourer to the bottle, and gently pour as much as you need and get ready to enjoy.
2. As the red wine passes through the dispenser, it instantly oxygenates the wine bringing out the complex flavors and aromatic bouquets.
3. Enjoy smelling and tasting.

The ideal gift:
Looking for wedding favors, or the perfect gift or gadget for wine lovers? The DOB Wine Aerator is the best for anyone that enjoys wine whether it is a present for a holiday, birthday, anniversary, wedding or any other special occasion.

Package Includes:
1 * DOB Wine Aerating Pourer

DOB Wine aerator review
Took this picture from their Amazon profile

Here comes the fun part! What did I think of it??!?

I’m sure you can tell by the way I’m actually typing out this post that I’m really excited about this product. And why should I not be? This product made my chill out sessions look classy and taste so much better!

This is a beautifully made aerator. The design of it is simple and classy. I took the excuse of reviewing this aerator to open a bottle of red wine and was so glad I did. :) I mostly drink white wine because I like the sweetness and was always worried that red wine had a “bite” to it. I’m not a wine connoisseur so please excuse me for not having the proper terminology.

Like I said, i’m not a wine pro, so I simply took a bottle off the shelves and tried that based on the design on the labels. I took 2 glasses without the aerator and the remaining with the aerator. Trust me, there is a difference. As I was pouring the wine, the bubbles can be seen going in through the small air holes and into the bottle. The seal around the cap was good, there were no leaks at all. I was worried about that because the cap was bigger than the mouth of the bottle.

Bottle of wine with aerator
The wine I enjoyed with the aerator. Yums!

The 2 glasses without the aerator had that strong bite ( i have no idea how to describe that taste, but it is due to the tannins present in red wine) that reminded me why I normally avoided reds. I did allow the bottle to rest for 5 mins after I opened it. After adding the aerator, the wine was so much smoother and subsequent glasses really brought out the tones of the wine. The “bite” that I mentioned earlier on, was more subtle and I was able to enjoy the wine so much better.

This is my first time using an aerator for my wine, and you can definitely tell, I’ll never drink another bottle of red without it anymore.

Go check it out here: DOB Wine Bottle Pourer Wine Aerator Pourer . This makes the perfect gift for wine lovers this holiday season.

kombucha tips 30

Day 30!! We are officially wrapping up this entire 30 days of kombucha challenge. I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did. While most recipes and ideas are simple, they weren’t something that came to mind when I first started kombucha. I had the routine of brewing and drinking, and that’s about it. Quite a few times you’ll see people posting in the forums about not knowing what to do with their kombucha that has gone too sour. Or if their brew is going faster than they can drink. I had that happening in my home quite a few times now.

Today’s we end the challenge with a kombucha spritzer to welcome our October’s Halloween & Autumn Fun theme.

His savvy wife facebook cover

I have a feeling for those of us whose spouses don’t approve Kombucha as much as we hoped for, this might just bring them in. My husband did well with the smoothie, and my guess is this recipe will provide a nice kick into getting him reach for more kombucha on his own. And if that doesn’t do it, at least I know I’ll have less of a hangover drinking this spritzer than knocking back wine glasses. Instead of comfort foods, we now have comfort kombucha for adults.

Drink up, my friends. You’ll probably make one of these every weekend this Fall.

Make this about 8 hours in advance and allow the flavors to blend before serving.

It is important to use a fine strainer to strain before you pour into serving glasses. You don’t want to serve the yeast strains to your guests.

One of the best things about this, if you’re using a screw top wine bottle, you can keep the bottle for use in your future bottling. :)

kombucha tips 30

Have a glass of Kopi-bucha (1)

This is the 26th post to the 30 ways with kombucha in 30 days that I have decided to take up for the month of September. You may read more about the ‘challenge’ I gave myself here.

After the experiment on day 23 of cleaning that coffee machine, why not put it to use now and make the coffee connoisseur in you proud?

Yes! Its another coffee blog post! I want coffee flavored everything.

Its the only thing that keeps me going these days. While everyone else who thinks that being the ‘housewife’ means I’m very free to sleep and do whatever I please, I’m actually busier than ever. Experimenting with different recipes, preparing to blog and taking and editing photos. My to-do, to-read, and to-cook lists can officially be written into books. Not forgetting physical meetings, cyber meetings, and all the ‘work’ I have going on for me in the real world to bring some ‘dough’ home.

Its very different working for yourself & working for others. You bootstrap and work twice as hard as you strive to hit your goals. I work round the clock as long as my eyes can stay open. I’m usually up till 4am and awake by 9am to feed Cupid and start my day with housework. But the flexibility in my life now is exactly what I wanted and I will not change any bit of it. Everything is progressing the way I planned for, and I’m very thankful for the opportunities that come.

This ‘stay home’ wife only sleeps 5 hours a day. COFFEE is always on the top of my grocery list. Every.single.week.

coffee-wine

Of course when I first saw Coffee Kombucha, I got very excited.

Kopi, also known as Coffee in Malay can also be used to make Coffee Kombucha.

Why it works?

Kombucha is known mostly for being a form of fermented tea, with a SCOBY.  Kombucha tea is made from sweet tea, to which a starter (fermented tea) and a SCOBY, is added and allowed to sit and ferment at room temperature for the following 7 to 14 days.

The beneficial bacteria and yeast in the culture convert the sugar, tannins, and caffeine in the tea to beneficial substances for your body. Since coffee also has the tannins and caffeine that is needed for the kombucha to grow, it only makes sense if the coffee addict in me gave it a go.

How?

There’s a few ways to make this.

1) Cold brew coffee – Refer to this recipe I made using grounded coffee, and brew enough for 7 cups of cold brew coffee

2) Using coffee machine – Prepare 4 capsules to make 4 espressos, after brew, add 5 cups of cool water to it and add to jar.

– Make sure the capsules you are using are not flavored coffees, this is to prevent any oils from the added flavors from affecting the growth of the beneficial                                                            bacteria.

3) Instant coffee – I will be demonstrating today’s experiment with instant coffee since this is more widely available compared to the above 2.

After the fermenting period, the Kopi-bucha comes out more beneficial and easier to drink. Its less acidic due to the fermentation. And it comes with double energy boost. And a delicious fizz.

WHAT?!?!?!

Yes you heard me right, 1) because our brain is used to ‘energy boosts’ from coffee, and it tends to give us a ‘pick-me-up’ feeling. and now with the additional benefits from the regular kombucha, that is also known to be a energizer. Throw that 5 hour energy drink to the bin now, will you?

Have a glass of Kopi-bucha (1)

Take note that:

This will not work with decaf coffee as the scoby needs caffeine to grow.

You can add milk to it to make it a latte-bucha, but dairy milk will curdle. Nut milks or coconut milk will work better.

Its not recommended to use the same scoby for regular kombucha again. So use a spare SCOBY from regular kombucha.

If you enjoyed the first batch of kopi-bucha, you can consider converting it into a continuous brew.

This is the 23rd post to the 30 ways with kombucha in 30 days that I have decided to take up for the month of September. You may read more about the ‘challenge’ I gave myself here.

This post is dedicated to all coffee addicts in the world. If you love coffee, and enjoy a cuppa every morning before you start your day, we can be buddies.

I have no idea how I even started. I wasn’t much of a coffee drinker before. I started drinking more coffee when we were in USA. Hanging out with other wives and visiting their homes. Each time they would make a pot of coffee and we’d each pour glass after glass while we shared cakes & pastries.

coffee addicts

Then coming back to Singapore, I would have coffee at work, and meetings over at starbucks and hotel lounges. Seemed like the perfect thing to keep the day going. Well, you know what they say about coffee right?

coffee-is-for-closers

I’ve owned this Nespresso capsule machine for like almost a year now. We bought it for our home now that the hubby’s onto coffee as much as I am. Probably the best tasting coffee out there. I’ve started to notice that sometimes there’s dark particles in my coffee, or some extra gunk that I don’t expect to be there. Sometimes if we forget to drop the capsule into the little bin below, bits of coffee grounds would get stuck along the way.

As much as they say that its a 1 button job and the easiest thing you’ll ever have, it still does require some maintenance. The instruction manual does mention it too. You have to buy the descaler from Nespresso to clean the insides of the machine. The descaling kit costs around $26 for a set of 2. They recommend to descale your machine twice a year.  Or at least, do it when you find the taste of your coffee a little off-ish.

Why does this work?

The mild acid in kombucha helps get rid of the hard water spots, remove any mineral build up and coffee bits that get stuck and turn rancid.

How to:

Mix kombucha vinegar with filtered water 1:2 ratio.

Pour into the reservoir of the coffee machine.

Follow machine’s instruction manual to get to descaling mode.

For the Nespresso Pixie machine, check out this youtube video on how to get to the descaling mode.

Let the diluted kombucha run through the machine twice then discard.

I had a few dark particles and murky water on the first run through.

When all the liquid is drained, refill reservoir with plain water and allow the machine to go through the descaling mode once more to rinse.

Allow machine to run till water is clear, then exit descaling mode.

Make yourself an Espresso now, or simply turn off the machine. 😉

This is the 19th post to the 30 ways with kombucha in 30 days that I have decided to take up for the month of September. You may read more about the ‘challenge’ I gave myself here.

This is a good way to get someone to start drinking kombucha. I’ve been discussing about trying to get the spouse to join me on this journey of fermented foods. I’ve started on sauerkraut, which he enjoys. Yesterday, I made a smoothie out of kombucha. Maybe its the bright colors, or the sweetness of dragonfruit. He finished the glass I gave him.. :)

I guess I might have to make more kombucha smoothies for a start. The good thing about this kombucha smoothie, the fruit is not fermented yet, so the sweetness of the fruit blends with most of the kombucha to make a dessert-like smoothie. It tasted more like blended fruits with a very slight hint of kombucha. Because everything is blended up, no ‘scary’ strands of yeast or anything. This may be a good way to start the kids on kombucha too. You can even sneak some greens in it too!

Try replacing the milk of your regular smoothies with kombucha..  Or make it a smoothie powerhouse. Greens, fruits, chia seeds, goji berries, kombucha. Probiotic and filled with superfoods. Yums! I started with 1 fruit and 2 cups of kombucha. Loved it! I’ll definitely be trying a green shake with kombucha soon.
